Dear Friends and Customers,
Thank You so very much for giving our
recently delivered reefers Plencia and Portugalete such a good welcome. I fell in love with
these the moment I saw them and now I am happy to see that several of you
did, too. We have already produced a huge number of hulls from
reefer-ships and will go on with these soon. But for now we would like
to introduce our number 243 to you. This will be the small 1899
Burmeister and Wain built passenger ship Bornholm. She was ordered by
Dampskibselskabet 1866 af Bornholm for service to this special
island in the Baltic. We chose this quite unusual vessel for our series
because she was sold to Sweden in 1924 to become the Borgholm, the
first Swedish America Line tender. This is not the only reason
for the model. It was my Swedish friend Klas-Aake Lindstedt, who stated
that it is almost impossible to produce the other two SAL tenders, the
Kastelholm and the elegant Marieholm without making the Borgholm as well. She
would in this case be the last SAL passenger ship not to be modelled. So he finally
persuaded me and I started building it straight away so as to overcome 
my lack of enthusiasm. Sadly, when we started advertising her, we were
not fully aware that there was another Danish colour version
too attractive to drop. So we will offer these versions: Ri 243 Bornholm,
1899, wood-coloured superstructure, white boot topping. Ri 243a Borgholm
1924 as sold to the SAL, white superstructure Ri 243b Borgholm 1932 ,
SAL, wooden bulwark at the bridge. And – not consecutively perhaps in time, Ri 243c
Bornholm before 1924, believed to be roughly 1914, white superstructure,
lettering Bornholm on the hull and a post horn on the funnel. The
production is pretty demanding, which may explain the relatively high
price of 38,00 Euro. Soon afterwards, we are going to deliver the
Norwegian reefer Pacific Express,  which was finished by Kockums in
Malmö in 1945. She is another typical vessel of her time, highly
elegant and distinguished in the colours of her owners, Biørn Biørnstad
& Co in Oslo. An a-number will be available in Salen Charter, and a
number b represents the ship when she was sold to the Norwegian Erling
Hansen who ran her as Ranada until 1972. She was then sold on to Wan
Lung Nav. Co. S/A in Panama. Her new career as Wan Chun was very short.
In November the same year she was wrecked on the beaches of Ijmuiden, an event well documented on the net.

Fotografia dos anos 30' do século passado. As obras do porto continuavam com o prolongamento e alargamento do mesmo. Os velhos gasolinas e os guindastes da Casa Blandy aguardavam clientes. Ao longe um navio alemão dos "Sierras" mantinha-se estacionado nas águas calmas da baía.

Latest oilpainting: Nedlloyd Dejima 
The Nedlloyd Dejima from 1973 (2900 TEU) was in her time the largest and fastest container vessel in her time. Original her power source was a steamturbine but due to the oil shortage (1973-74) her engine room was rebuild completely with 2 Sulzer engines, changing her max speed from 30 to 21 knots. She became operational with the new powersource in 1982. Her end of live became in 1998, at the demolition yard of Alang in India.
