OPERAÇÂO DULCINEIA - 50 ANOS DEPOIS

Está patente no Museu Nacional da Imprensa, uma exposição denominada "SANTA LIBERDADE, 50 ANOS", a saga do navio Santa Maria e do seu assalto sob o comando de Henrique Galvão. Sem dúvida, um momento da nossa história para recordar ou para descobrir no caso dos mais novos, a visitar!

2 NEW WATERCOLOURS


This time I show you 2 new watercolors.

1. ss Overijssel (Rotterdam Lloyd) was a C3 type of ship. That means these ship were build in USA wartime  in serial and  on am modulair way. After the war these ships were available for allied countries who needed desperately transport means, in order to start up local economy as soon as possible. That was a reason for Rotterdam Lloyd to get this ship available just after wartime.

2. The Zwarte Zee (4) and the ss Rotterdam (5) passed each other on the quite summer evening somewere on the 60's.  This was a special occasion since the Zwarte Zee was the largest seagoing tug in the Netherlands while the ss Rotterdam  was the largest passengerliner. If this situation happend in real, I do not know, but it certainly was a reason for this painting.

OS FRANCESES DO TITANIC


A bord du Titanic se trouvaient quarante-neuf Français, passagers et membres d'équipage. Dix-neuf d'entre eux ont survécu : six hommes, huit femmes et cinq enfants. Qui étaient-ils ? Que faisaient-ils à bord ? D'où venaient-ils ? Que sont-ils devenus ?Fondée en 1998, l'Association française du Titanic s'est donné pour tâche de reconstituer les éléments biographiques de ces protagonistes peu connus des événements de la nuit du 14 au 15 avril 1912. Faisant suite à des publications analogues sur les Canadiens (1988), les Norvégiens (1998) et sur les Irlandais (2001) du Titanic, « Les Français du Titanic » raconte l'histoire de nos compatriotes embarqués sur le paquebot géant et l'existence de ceux qui ont survécu à la catastrophe.L'ouvrage évoque bien sûr le bref passage du Titanic à Cherbourg, où la plupart des passagers français ont embarqué, et il aborde les enquêtes menées à la suite du naufrage en recensant les hypothèses formulées sur ses causes. Un livre indispensable alors que se préparent plusieurs films et événement à l'occasion du centenaire de la catastrophe. (288 p., broché, 160 x 220 mm, 24 €)

Velho LIMA - 1922-1969


O navio LIMA da Empresa Insulana de Navegação, construido em 1908 teve uma longevidade de 61 anos a navegar. Foi um navio importante no eixo Lisboa-Madeira-Açores da suas viagens regulares. Estas fotos tiradas à chegada ao porto do Funchal. Mais tarde, seria o CARVALHO ARAÚJO a desempenhar o mesmo papel e quebrando o isolamento que as populações sentiam na época.

ROBERT LEY IN FUNCHAL

O navio "Robert Ley" junto ao Cais da Cidade nos anos 30' do século passado. Este navio alemão pertenceu à KDF - Força pela Alegria. A entrada da cidade estava em obras como mostra a imagem, iniciando-se a abertura e alargamento da Avenida do Mar.

ELZELINA EHLERS - 1948-2010



Existem dias assim! Dias em que recebemos noticias tristes. A pintora alemã Elzelina Ehlers faleceu hoje!
Profunda entusiasta pela temática maritima com um historial de viagens invejável em grandes transatlânticos, que pintava apaixonadamente o navio France/Norway, não resistiu a esta "viagem". Tive o prazer de a convidar a visitar Lisboa em 2008  e de convivermos momentos inesqueciveis.

SHIP SALLAND - KHL

Latest oilpainting of the motorvessel "Salland" under the managemant of the KHL (Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd) The ship was build in 1974 in the DDR, after the Flevoland, a sistership, which was build one year earlier. Those days the two ships were the largest and fastest ships of the KHL. It was in the beginning of the container time and both ships were able to carry about 300 containers.


Length: 152 meter, speed 18,5 knots, while she was driven by a single

2 stroke Rostock-MAN diesel, which was capable of producing 11.200 apk.

The vessel is seen here leaving the piers of IJmuiden, the entrance to Amsterdam harbour.

SNSM IS GOOD FOR YOU

A SNSM - Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer em Le Havre acaba de enviar-me esta bela foto com a sua equipa de apoio. Esta Associação é o equivalente ao "nosso" ISN - Instituto de Socorros a Nufragos, tantas vezes ignorado salvo em casos de força maior.

NIEUW AMSTERDAM - Aquarel from Hans Breeman


New watercolorpainting:


This watercolor shows the well known passengerliner ss Nieuw Amsterdam of the Holland- Amerika- Line. She is seen her at her berth next to the headoffice of the HAL.

Her color is grey, meaning that the watercolor is based on a number of years after the 2nd WW. She was build with a black hull in 1938 and during the war she was an important tool for Mr Churchil in transporting allied solders all over the world were necessary.

For many it was the most beautiful ship ever sailed under the dutch flag.
